In your Sims folder is a folder called "Game Data". In there is a "Textures" folder. In there is something called Textures.far. |
All the default clothes (the ugly ass clothes that come with the game that you cannot find and delete from the Skins folder) and NPC (non-playable characters, like the Maid) and career clothes (like the astronaut uniform) are in there. Theoretically, any same-named skins will override the default clothes if they're placed in the Textures folder altho I've found it to be less than 100% successful. (see my technote01 on how to do that. It's the same process as the buyable skins, just a different folder.) Below is a screenshot of my "Textures" folder, well the top third of it anyway. |
But let's say you want to make a maid's uniform that any woman can wear. First, you need to extract it from the .far. I used Far Sight to extract the .bmps (the principle applies to Mac & PC, but I can't help PC people with utilites.) So you launch Far Sight, open "Textures.far" and scroll down to "Maid.bmp" and extract it to your desktop. |
Then I opened it in Photoshop and saved it as "b200fafitlgt_maid.bmp" The b200 mesh was the closest thing I had to the maid outfit. Is it a skirt or shorts or a skort? But she has heels. I used Simshow, which is free from Aspyr (you have to register to download Simshow), to import the skin into my game. |
